MOBILIZING THE MUSLIM VOTE

One of the main goals of IMAN is to mobilize the Muslim vote. To achieve this goal, the organization took the first step and collected data about the concentration of Muslim voters in house and senate districts around the state. Each election cycle, the organization plans to identify competitive races, hold voter registration drives, publish voters education guides, and lead Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaigns.

Having recently hired Yaqoub Saadeh as our full-time Community Engagement Coordinator, we look forward to expanding our statewide partnerships and increasing our GOTV impact within the Hoosier Muslim community. 2024 is a critical election year, and Muslims have a right to have our voices heard in the ballot box.

Past General & Midterm Elections:

For the past 5 years, IMAN has shared with you a Voters' Guide that shines a spotlight on select Congressional, State Senate and House Districts. These districts not only have heated races, but also a concentration of Muslim voters who can move the needle on those races. In 2018, leading up to the mid-term elections, IMAN led the first Muslim-to-Muslim GOTV campaign in Indiana. With the help of its collaborating partners, IMAN was able to contact hundreds of registered voters in Senate District 29, which includes portions of Hamilton, Marion, and Boone Counties. Given the competitive nature of this race and the densely population Muslims in this district, Muslim Hoosiers had the unique opportunity to voice their political opinion and impact the electoral results in a high-profile senate race.

Thanks to 40+ volunteers, over the course of 2 phone banks at Masjid AlFajr, we made 3,326 phone calls to registered Muslims in SD 29/ These conversations before election day showed us the voter turnout increase by 7.25%. In other words, Muslim voters who were contacted by our volunteers were 7.25% more likely to vote than those who were not contacted.
