IU Indianapolis Students Start the First IMAN Student Chapter

Inaugural Board of the IMAN IU Indianapolis Student Chapter.

IU Indianapolis is known for its diversity, including a significant Muslim student population. While the Muslim Student Association (MSA) has existed on campus for years, many Muslim students felt there was a need for additional initiatives focused on civic engagement and education around local politics.

With the Indiana Statehouse located just five minutes from campus, a group of Muslim students recognized a unique opportunity to make a greater impact by launching the first IMAN student chapter at IU Indianapolis. They connected with Yaqoub, IMAN’s community engagement coordinator, and successfully filed their student organization with the university by the spring semester of 2024. They’re eager to get their peers more involved in civic life, expand their understanding of local policy, and actively participate in the legislative process. During the 2024 legislative session, they’ll be testifying on legislation alongside IMAN!
